Scottsdale is probably most famous for its high quality of life and in 1993 it earned the title ‘Most Liveable City’ in the United States by the United States Conference of Mayors. The city is continually ranked as one the premier golf and luxury resort destinations in the world and has a sizeable portion of tax revenue being derived from tourism. Scottsdale is home to the Phoenix Open Golf Tournament which is held at the Tournament Players Club every year as well as the Barrett Jackson car show which is held at West World.

Scottsdale boasts more than 70 hotels and holiday resorts, with an impressive 15 000 hotel rooms in the city. The large hospitality market caters mostly to a higher-end, white collar demographic. Scottsdale has its own airport, even with its proximity to Phoenix, the state capital which also has its own airport, it remains very busy. Many tourists choose car rental as a way to get about the city. Walking is an option but due to the heat it may not be suitable for everyone. Car hire can be arranged from several outlets in the city including a variety at Scottsdale Airport.
The city’s very agreeable climate is largely to thank for its booming tourism industry, as during the very mild winter months thousands of wealthy tourists from the Midwest, the northeast and even as far away as Canada, flock to Scottsdale every year to escape the cold. Many of these visitors come on long term holidays and those who practice this annual migration have even bought second homes in the city.
In recent years the city has experienced a growing number of trendy, high-end nightlife, upscale restaurants, art galleries as well as luxury shopping venues which have made the city extremely popular with younger wealthy and more style-conscious travellers.
