Kirkwood is a city located in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 27,540 at the 2010 census. The city was organized in 1853 and is named after James Pugh Kirkwood, builder of the Pacific Railroad. Kirkwood is home to the first free public library west of the Mississippi River and the world's first ice cream cone.

Kirkwood is located at 38°35′51″N 90°24′39″W. It is bounded by Interstate 44 to the north, Interstate 270 to the east, and the city of Des Peres to the south and west. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.42 square miles, of which 6.39 square miles is land and 0.03 square miles is water.

Kirkwood is served by the St. Louis County Library system, and has two branches located in the city. The main branch is located at 140 East Jefferson Avenue, and the branch library is located at 821 South Kirkwood Road. The city is served by the Kirkwood School District, which includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. The district is also home to two private schools, St. Peter's Catholic School and Kirkwood Christian School.

Kirkwood is home to a variety of shopping and dining options, including the Kirkwood Farmers' Market, which is held every Saturday from April to October, and the Kirkwood Station Plaza.
