Highlands Ranch is a census-designated place (CDP) in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 96,713 at the 2010 census. Located 12 miles (19 km) south of downtown Denver, Highlands Ranch is an unincorporated community and was the twelfth most populous CDP in the United States in 2010. It is not a part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area, but is part of the Denver-Aurora, CO Combined Statistical Area.

Highlands Ranch is a master-planned community located on the former grounds of the famous J.D. Hollingsworth estate. The area was purchased by Mission Viejo Company in 1977. The community is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Denver. It is bordered by the cities of Littleton to the northwest, Englewood to the north, and Centennial to the east.

The nearest airport to Highlands Ranch is Denver International Airport, located about 25 miles (40 km) to the north. The closest RTD light rail station is in Littleton, about 8 miles (13 km) away.
