Why road-trips are so fun and important reminder about renting a car
No long check-in lines, no security hassle, no uncomfortable small seating, and even better for the ones amongst us that suffer from flight scare; no turbulence, no ears closing up and no heights. So, just that to start with, going on a road-trip is already better than flying in some cases! But that’s just if you stay in and around your home base, unfortunately. Car journeys just really are much more comfortable in that way. You don’t have to think about your luggage weight, and you can travel together with your family without paying for 4 or more different tickets. If you are flying and then renting a car, here are some ideas to make the trip flow smoothly!
Don’t ever forget your credit card and driving license whilst picking up your rental car. You could use the debit card to your bank, but some rental car companies check your credit score to make sure you can pay any charges. If you use a credit card you won’t need to worry about passing through a credit check. However, you should know that some car agencies could put a hold on some funds from the card until you’re finished with the car. Oh, and don’t think of using a prepaid credit card – many car rental companies won’t accept them.
Make sure you get all the information you need so this does not cause any last minute surprises and stress.
Under the age of 23 or sometimes 25, it costs more to rent a car. Your 23-year-old daughter may have a spotless driving record, but car rental companies don’t care. Rental companies only see them as a possible liability to their goods because they’ve heard nothing parties like a rental. And if you’re under 25, you should expect a daily fee tacked onto your bill young drivers. As long as they’re on the extra driver list, you’ll pay.
Renting a car is such a common part of the travel experience that you’d think the process would be straightforward and transparent — yet somehow it is anything but. Do I need to buy additional insurance? What about paying to refuel the car? It’s definitely easier to find out about these different issues so you know exactly what’s going on when you rent your car and take on a great adventure.
