When you arrive in Italy, you can rent a car at Fuimicino International Airport in Rome for just 37 Euros a week! In Rome there are incredible places to visit, you can not miss the Vatican, the Coliseum and the Forums. But you can also visit the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Castel Sant'Angelo.
After the visit you can go to Naples only 240 km away, that is, about two hours long. Once there you can visit Piazza del Plebiscito, one of the symbols of Naples. It is located just in front of the Royal Palace. You can rest there and then see some of the most important buildings of the city, such as the Royal Palace, the Basilica of San Francisco de Paula, the Prefactura Palace and the Salerno Palace.
Then we can continue our journey to Pompeii, the mythical ancient city buried by Vesuvius. It is 24 km away, a little more than 20 minutes from Naples and the road goes bordering the coast, making the journey a beautiful memory in itself. You can not miss visiting the Amphitheater of Pompeii which was the first to be built in stone around 70 BC. It is located at the eastern end of the city, in ancient times it could hold up to 20.000 spectators who came to this place to see fights of beasts or gladiator combats. Other places of great interest are: The Basilica of Pompeii, the House of the Faun or the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
This incredible journey continues to Sorrento, an hour's drive. Although it is just 30 kilometres away, it is a mountain road with the sea at the back, a true experience behind the wheel for the beauty of the road. There you can enjoy wonderful coastal towns that have been built with an amazing mastery in the steep mountains that end in the Mediterranean Sea.
On the way we can continue to Positano, less than an hour's drive. It is located on the other side of the small peninsula of Sorrento. This coastal town has a strange effect on tourists, they fall in love just arriving and see its blue beaches surrounded by steep mountains and bathed by the calm and shining sea of the Amalfi coast.
From there and after several days of touring one of the most beautiful coasts in Europe we can return to Rome Airport. Either we make our way back along the coast, which is much more rewarding though much longer, or we can take a highway route of 290 kilometres to our destination. Regardless of our choice there is one thing guaranteed, it will be one of the best vacations of our life.
