This island is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Portugal. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by an extraordinary marine bio diversity. Its green and full of life mountains are also a feature of the island.
To tour Madeira comfortably you can rent a car, because hiring separate trips will suppose an enormous cost on your visit to this beautiful island. On the other hand, public transport does not ensure good communication between towns and you would be subject to uncomfortable waiting. Once we have the means of transportation we will begin our tour.
On our first day touring Madeira we suggest you to take the car and go to Santa Cruz, about 15-20 minutes from Funchal. In Santa Cruz you can spend the morning touring around the town and enjoying its beautiful beaches. There you can have lunch, there are many restaurants serving traditional and delicious Portuguese food.
After lunch we drive through a beautiful road to go to Machico, 15 minutes from Santa Cruz, although there are places on the coast that are worth a stop to be immortalized with your camera. Once in Machico you can visit the city centre and see the mother church of the fifteenth century. From there we go to the Port Nossa Senhora do Amparo and Sao Joao Baptista, remember to take time to swim in the nearby beach of Machico.
In the morning we continue our tour around Madeira going to Sao Vicente to visit the most impressive caves of the island, there you can visit the famous volcanoes centre to learn about the volcanic activity of the island. The visit to Sao Vicente is the most impressive of the island.
After eating something in Sao Vicente we will go to Porto Moniz, only 15 minutes by car. In Porto Moniz you can not fail to discover its natural pools and spend all the afternoon there relaxing under the sun of this magnificent island. Before nightfall we recommend you to tour the centre of Porto Moniz and have diner in one of the terraces of the village.
In this third day touring Madeira we can visit its nature, the landscapes of the island and the mountains are as beautiful as its beaches. From Machico we drive to the viewpoint of Pico do Facho and get to Ponto do Buraco to enjoy the beautiful views of the area.
We will continue on our way going to Santana where we can have a meal and visit the famous Casinhas. Then we can go to see a panoramic view of breathtaking cliffs, huge mountains that end abruptly in a vast, blue ocean. At night we can walk through the centre and eat something in this picturesque village.
After three days in Madeira we can see that the natural beauty of the island, the friendliness and hospitality of its people and the history of its cities will make our vacation unforgettable. But we still have four days left!, we will continue our journey in the next article, do not miss it ...
