Orlando receives most of the visitors in Florida, and no wonder, since it has the largest number of theme parks in the United States. Once there it is very difficult to choose the places to visit, hence the importance of knowing what to do in Orlando ahead of time.
The first thing to solve is the transport, as distances in Florida are very large, and public transport takes too long to get from one park to another, in many cases it becomes an almost impossible and very costly task. For this reason it is always cheaper to get to Orlando International Airport and rent a car there to move freely throughout the state.
The biggest attraction of this area of the southern United States are its theme parks. Within the huge range of leisure we highlight the Universal Orlando Resort, a theme park that consists of two parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. The mega park has a common centre of nightlife with restaurants, shops, cinemas, nightclubs and three hotels.
Universal Orlando is located north of the area of International Drive. You can access the resort from the Interstate 4 taking the exit 74B, which goes to Universal Blvd in the east and to Hollywood Way in the west.
Islands of Adventure opened in March 1999. The main entrance to the park has many shops and services. There you can find the Confisco Grille restaurant and a gift shop, Islands of Adventure Trading Company. The attractions are divided into six zones, called islands, which are the various park attractions grouped by topics.
The Marvel Super Hero Island has attractions inspired by Marvel comics. Superheroes like Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-Man and some enemies as the Green Goblin or Doctor Death stand out. Although Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel, this island is still property of Universal Studios. You will find attractions such as The Incredible Hulk Coaster, a green roller coaster with several loops and pipes. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, a 3-D simulator inspired by the city of New York. Doctor Doom's Fearfall, two towers inspired by a factory used as a shuttle. Storm Force Accelatron, a faster version of "teacups" and Harry Potter, one of the most demanded attractions park inspired by the film.
Toon Lagoon Island is based on comics of King Features Syndicate and Jay Ward. Local attractions include Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls and Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges. It has a play area for children: Me Ship, the Olive. In addition to the above attractions there are three restaurants: Comic Strip Cafe (offering Italian and Chinese dishes, burgers, chicken and fish) Blondies and Wimpy's (only open during peak season).
Jurassic Park Island is based on a replica of the stage where the movies took place. It is a wooded area where we can find dinosaurs and some jeeps through the walking areas of the park. There you can enjoy the attractions of Jurassic Park River Adventure, based on the movie Jurassic Park, it is a boat trip visiting the habitat created for dinosaurs. Camp Jurassic is a children play area where you can discover fossil, dig and learn more about the lives of dinosaurs. The Pteranodon Flyers is a roller coaster for kids full of cars with two seats that move by rail. Jurassic Park Discovery Center is a replica of the visitor centre you see in the film where you can see fossils and dinosaur replicas.
The Lost Continent Island is based on ancient legends and myths. It contains replicas of ruins from different cultures, such as Greek, Roman and Egyptian cultures. There you can visit attractions like Poseidon's Fury with special effects of water, fire and wind. It simulates the wrath of Poseidon trying to free the Titans. Sinbad is a show about the adventures of Sinbad the Sailor.
Island Seuss Landing is based on the books by Dr. Seuss. It is the only island totally oriented to little ones. There are attractions based on his work, such as the Caro-Seuss-el, a carousel with many of the characters of Dr. Seuss books, The Cat in the Hat and The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride an unforgettable trip for the little ones.
Island The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a reproduction of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade village, with different attractions. For example you can get on Flight of the Hippogriff, a family coaster simulating the flight of Hagrid’s hippogri. Dragons challenge, two inverted roller coasters with an intertwined round. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a simulation attraction, based on a broom flight with Harry and his companions. This attraction is inside a replica of the castle.
