Are you one of the millions of spectators expected to descend on London over the next few weeks to enjoy the world’s biggest sporting event, the Olympics? If so you will probably find the best way to get around in the busy city traffic is by using car hire. Public transport is also available but is not as convenient a being able to drive yourself to and from the venues. Not only is car rental convenient but it is also really cost effective. Cheap car hire is available in London, which means that getting from your chosen accommodation to the venue will not break the bank.
Another great thing about driving yourself around the city is that you will also have the freedom to explore the area after you have seen that day’s event. London and the surrounding areas have so much to offer visitors that car hire is the most flexible and convenient mode of transport for those staying just a short time.
Some of the events will enable you to see some of the sights of London anyway. For example, the Beach Volleyball event is taking place in Horse guards Parade. This is in itself a popular London tourist spot, but from there you can see other great attractions such as the London eye, and it is just a short walk from Buckingham Palace.
Using your hire car in between your events means also being able to visit other popular tourist spots in and around the London area including, Tower Bridge which currently is decorated with the Olympic Rings, the Tower of London and the London Dungeon.
Take yourself a little farther afield and you can visit the delightful town of Windsor. Very popular with tourists, the main attraction in Windsor is of course the castle. This is still used on occasion as a residence for the royal family, although tours around the castle interior and grounds take place daily. Children will also love to visit Windsor as the LEGOLAND theme park can be found here. Fun rides and plenty of activities can keep children and adults alike amused for the whole day.
You can see the city from several perspectives both aerial and ground level. The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel that takes around 30 minutes to complete its cycle. At the top there is an impressive view across the whole city. This 360 degree panorama is fantastic on a clear day and offers a great chance to get in several stunning photographs. If you don’t have a head for heights you can take a river boat cruise and see the sights that way. Along the Thames you can enjoy sights and attractions such as the houses of parliament and the tower that houses Big Ben. Take the cruise in the evening and you can enjoy a dinner too, and see attractions such as Tower Bridge illuminated in all its glory.
