Hyperloop One has announced its tubular transport project, which is expected to be built between Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It would only take 12 minutes to complete the trip between this two cities, with a distance of 160 kilometres.
Hyperloop One intends the entire experience not to require any effort on the part of the customer. Passengers would be picked up from their homes or offices by an autonomous vehicle and transferred to Hyperloop. Once there, the vehicle would be loaded onto a larger conveyor to be sent by the tube to its destination. It pretends to be the perfect way to transport people, without the need for passengers to do anything, all transport will be automated from the beginning to the arrival at the destination.
The basic idea is to ensure the pressure inside the tube is so low that it minimizes drag to the point that the vehicle propels itself forward while travelling on a thin air cushion. This means of transport based on vacuum tubes is designed so that the capsules (vehicles), with capacity of between 1 and 28 passengers, can travel at a speed oscillating between 970 and 1,200 km/h.
Forbes magazine has recently claimed to have seen documents estimating the costs of Dubai’s project around €4.4 billion.
If the project is confirmed, it can be a revolution in the sector, as travel times are considerably reduced. For example, the Dubai Riyadh route in Saudi Arabia now takes about 9 hours by car. However, with Hyperloop it will take 48 minutes.
The advantages of this means of transport are many, such as its completely clean and environmentally friendly system, when using electrical energy obtained by solar panels. The vehicle would use an electric motor to accelerate it to high speeds, once the speed is reached, as there is no aerodynamic drag inside the tube or friction, the speed remains very high without the motors having to spend a lot of energy.
We do not know when the first line of Hyperloop One will be ready, but some media point out that it would not be unusual for it to be one of the gems of Dubai Expo 2020.
