Belfast is located northeast of the island of Ireland, a city full of history and currently offering a good amount of sites of interest to any tourist.
The area of Belfast could be one of the oldest in the island , since archaeological sites of more than 5000 years old have been found there. The city itself began to gain importance from the seventeenth century and during the following centuries it continued to grow economically till it became the largest city in Ireland until the twentieth century , thanks in large part to its shipyards and merchant marine trade.
We must not forget that it was from one of its shipyards that the most famous ship of all time departed: the RMS Titanic , which in the fateful morning of April the 15th, 1912 sank on its opening voyage.
In honour of this great ship and all the stories surrounding it, the Titanic Belfast was built on March the 31st, 2012, a six floors museum - monument that examines the short existence of this giant of the sea. Among other curiosities you can see in real time the remains of the Titanic through a network of cameras that broadcast live from its grave 4,000 meters deep.
In the 70s, Belfast also saw several violent clashes between Catholic population who wanted independence and the Protestan party, loyal to the English government.
Currently the violent clashes no longer exist, so visiting Belfast holds no danger. However it is not recommended to talk about politics, because there remains some degree of rivalry between the two sectors of the population.
A place of great interest is the castle of Belfast , a beautiful building constructed in 1870 out of sandstone, located at Cave Hill. It is also worth visiting the Albert Memorial Clock Tower, which was built in the nineteenth century in memory of the late Prince Albert.
It is also essential to visit the Tonw Hall of Belfast , which, thanks to its design, has become an indispensable part of the aspect of the city , near to it we find the commercial and tourist area of the city.
If you go to Ireland you have to visit this important town, full of history and entertainment , not to mention its historic pubs, where you can enjoy a very cold and good Guiness beer.
