We have seen many hotels of all kinds, beach or mountain hotels, cabins in snowy mountains, and even hotels pending on the water, but this one surprises us by its brilliance, location and the many possibilities offered to adventurers who stay there. The Arctic Kakslauttanen Resort is a haven in Finland that leaves no one indifferent. The major of its attractions are the spectacular northern lights you can enjoy in this part of the world, but obviously, there are many other surprises that make it a unique place for your holiday.
The area in which it is located is known as Lapland (or SAMPI area) and it occupies several countries in Northern Europe. The SAMPI area runs from Finland, Sweden, Russia and Norway, and still it has kept its own identity for hundreds of years. It is a beautiful region of forests, mountains, lakes and snow, lots of snow wherever you look.
In this setting we find the Kakslauttanen complex, which has one of the biggest attractions of the area, igloos made of glass, it is a different way to stay in the Arctic, an igloo made of glass plates which allow us to see from the inside the majestic northern lights of Finland. From late August to late April it is the best time to choose this comfortable accommodation. Logically igloos are provided with a heating system maintaining a constant temperature inside, regardless of the outside -25 C.
Another form of accommodation preferred by visitors are the cabins, which can accommodate up to 10 people. They are handmade and built out of old pine to preserve the local way of construction, which makes them a special shelter to relax and rest. All cabins are equipped with a large stone fireplace and sauna, making it a perfect place to combat the freezing night temperatures in Lapland. The Queen Suites, are over 60 square metres and they have a jacuzzi in the outside area, apart from the logical decorations of a cabin thought for a luxury stay, although in this case the luxury is in the nature around the hotel.
For the brave and adventurous ones, there is another option to stay overnight at the hotel: Ice Igloos. One of the advantages, if it can be called so, is that the igloo maintains a "constant" temperature between 3 and 6 degrees below zero. But do not worry, the hotel provides you with everything you need to spend the night inside, and everything you need means a sleeping bag, so those who want to face this cold experience are invited, honestly we prefer the cabins with fireplace and sauna ...
There is a lot to do and see in this inhospitable region of Northern Europe, and we'll talk about in our next article, until then we leave you wondering when to plan a vacation in the Arctic Kakslauttanen Resort.
