Italy is one of those countries that surprise us with any of its many cities and regions. No matter what place we choose to visit, we always go back home with a good aftertaste of our holiday, having beheld landscapes, works of art and unique architectural complexes. However there is a piece of land that enchants all visitors and, being a small and concentrated place, it allows us to enjoy the Italian essence in its purest form: we are talking about the Amalfi Coast.
Located next to Naples, this small entrance of land in the Mediterranean Sea (the Cape of Sorrento) offers to its visitors splendid villages, unforgettable sceneries and memories that will be fixed in our minds forever. To reach the area simply set Naples as your destination. This bustling city can be reached from any means of transport: cruise, train from Rome, plane ...
We recommend to rent a car from here and move to the Amalfi Coast in our own. It will be the best way to have complete freedom to stop wherever we want and enjoy the views. The route is via the A3 freeway, but there are two ways to go through the area: taking the exit of Castellammare di Stabia (especially recommended for those who have enough time) and doing the full tour of the Cape by Sorrento or taking the shortest but more authentic route, which begins in Vietri Sul Mare, few miles away, and access the coast on its east side.
From here on, the best thing is to be led by our own intuition. Soon we will notice that much of the region is covered by lemon trees placed on high terraces carefully crafted, that is why the well-known limoncello is made right here. The winding road accompanies the cliffs and occasionally it gives us an idyllic landscape where the sea, the sun and the houses seem to be in complete harmony. It is time then to stop our car in a safe place and be delighted with the view.
Of course any of the towns along the coast deserve our visit: Positano, Ravello, Amalfi, Sorrento ... it is the best way to enjoy the daily development of its people, cheerful and noisy as always, to taste some of the pizzas that make this region so famous (do not forget to order a margarita, the simplest but most native) and it is also the best way to get unique gifts, souvenirs for our friends, family or even for ourselves.
